Sister Alice Mary Goldsmith, R.C.D.

Sister Alice Mary Goldsmith, R.C.D., who served in pastoral and youth ministry and religious education in Manhattan, died June 10 at Nyack Hospital. She was 93.

Sister Alice Mary also served in senior citizen center administration and social justice committee efforts, and at the Madonna House convent, Manhattan. She served in similar capacities in Florida in the 1950s and 1960s.

In Manhattan, she served at St. Mary’s parish, Grand Street, 2001-2010; Florence Nightingale Nursing Home, 1991-2006; Church of the Transfiguration, 1988-1994; Immaculate Conception Senior Center, 1978-1987; and Ave Maria Convent, 1956-1958. She served at Marydell Faith and Life Center, Nyack, 1945-1955.

For the past year, Sister Alice Mary lived with the Dominican Sisters of Sparkill.

Born in Manhattan, she entered the Sisters of Our Lady of Christian Doctrine in 1948 and made final vows in 1953. She held a bachelor’s degree in sociology from Hunter College, and a master’s in gerontology from the College of New Rochelle.

She is survived by a nephew and three nieces. A Funeral Mass was offered June 13 at Our Lady of the Rosary Chapel, Sparkill. Burial was at Ascension Cemetery, Monsey.
