Sister Ana Belen Ospina, R.S.C.J.

Sister Ana Belen Ospina, R.S.C.J., a pastoral minister at Sacred Heart parish in Manhattan for 25 years, died Jan. 19 at Teresian House in Albany. She was 85. At Sacred Heart from 1977 to 2002, she was the pastoral assistant for social service programs. She ran programs for the homeless and poor, conducted adult Bible study and did home visitation. From 1973 to 1977, she did pastoral work at Holy Rosary parish in Manhattan. She served at a community center in Harlem, 1969-1973. Born near Bogota, Colombia, she entered the Society of the Sacred Heart in Bogota in 1945 and professed final vows in 1954. She served in Colombia, Puerto Rico and Cuba before coming to the United States in 1961 to serve her religious community at Kenwood Convent in Albany. She returned there in 2002 and moved to Teresian House in 2006. She is survived by a sister, Sarita, and three brothers, Alfredo, Bernardo and Gustavo, all of Bogota. Msgr. Kevin J. Nelan, pastor of Our Lady of Guadalupe at St. Bernard in Manhattan, was pastor of Sacred Heart for 13 years while Sister Ana was serving there. He celebrated the Funeral Mass at Kenwood Convent Jan. 26. Burial was in the convent cemetery.
