Sister Ann Stankiewicz, O.P., a member of the Dominican Sisters of Hope who served at Mount St. Mary College in Newburgh, died July 1 at the Wartburg in Mount Vernon. She was 86.

Sister Ann served at Mount St. Mary College, 1977-1981 and 1969-1975. She taught at Holy Family School, New Rochelle, 1959-1967, and also served in Rhode Island, New Jersey and Washington, D.C.

Born in Newburgh, she entered the Dominican Sisters of Newburgh in 1952 and professed final vows in 1958.

She earned a bachelor’s degree in English from Villanova University in Pennsylvania; a master’s in philosophy from Fordham University; and a doctorate in philosophy of education from SUNY Albany. Her sister, Elaine Aulogia, survives her.

Burial was July 6 in the Dominican Sisters of Hope Cemetery at Mount St. Mary College. A Memorial Mass will be scheduled at a later date.
