Sister Anne Cecile Merrill, O.P., who served at Dominican College in Orangeburg for 35 years, died Nov. 8 at St. Martin de Porres Infirmary. She was 101.

She served at Dominican College beginning in 1965 and served as assistant professor of education and English, audiovisual coordinator and reference and periodical librarian.

She taught in the Bronx at St. Luke’s, 1932-1936; Our Saviour, 1939-1943; and St. Benedict’s, 1951-1954. She taught at Our Lady of the Blessed Sacrament, Goshen, 1936-1939; and St. Dominic’s, Blauvelt, 1950-1951.

She also taught in Florida.

After retiring from active ministry in 2000, she served the congregation as historian until 2006.

Born in the Bronx, she entered the Sisters of St. Dominic of Blauvelt in 1930 and professed final vows in 1936. She held a bachelor’s degree in English from Manhattan College and a master’s degree in library science from St. John’s University.

A Funeral Mass was offered Nov. 12 at St. Dominic’s Convent in Blauvelt. Burial was in St. Dominic’s Cemetery, Blauvelt.
