Sister Anne Sturges, R.S.C.J.

Sister Anne Sturges, R.S.C.J., who served at Manhattanville College for 12 years, died Dec. 30 in Albany. She was 84.

Sister Anne was at Manhattanville, 1966-1978, serving in campus ministry, as a student adviser and director of student employment. She served in pastoral ministries at St. Michael’s parish in the Bronx, 1985-1994, and Fifth Avenue City Center in Manhattan, 1985-1986.

Sister Anne also taught English in upstate New York and Connecticut.

Born in Manhattan, she entered the Society of the Sacred Heart in 1954 and professed final vows in 1962.

She earned bachelor’s and master’s degrees, both in history, from Manhattanville.

She is survived by a brother, Ralph, and a sister, Sarah Bancroft.

A Funeral Mass was celebrated Jan. 10 in the Teresian House Chapel in Albany. Burial followed at Kenwood Cemetery in Albany.
