Sister Catherine McIntyre, R.J.M., who served in Highland Mills for 21 years, died April 21 at Cabrini Eldercare in Dobbs Ferry. She was 82.

Sister Catherine served as retreat director at Bethany Spirituality Center, Highland Mills, 2005-2012; director of retreat house/program development at Bethany Retreat House, 1998-2005; and director of program development at Bethany Retreat House, 1991-1998.

She also was a lecturer at Fordham University, the Bronx; Iona College, New Rochelle; Marymount Manhattan College, Manhattan; and Mercy College, Dobbs Ferry. She also served in Dallas.

Born in Manhattan, she entered the novitiate of the Religious of Jesus and Mary in 1960 and professed final vows in 1968.

She earned a bachelor’s degree in education from Fordham University, the Bronx; a master’s in religious education from The Catholic University of America, Washington, D.C.; and a doctorate in theology from Gregorian University, Rome.

Her brother, Dr. John McIntyre, M.D., survives her.

A Funeral Mass was celebrated May 8 at St. Patrick’s Church, Highland Mills. Burial was in Our Lady of Sorrows Cemetery, Highland Mills.
