Sister Cathleen O'Neill, M.M., who was a missioner to the Philippines and directed the Mission Institute at Maryknoll headquarters, died Jan. 2 in the Maryknoll Sisters Residential Care unit in Ossining. She was 76. She was director of the Mission Institute from 1968 to 1972. She later did research projects for Maryknoll Overseas Extension Service and Maryknoll School of Theology. She earned a licentiate in biblical studies from the Pontifical Biblical Institute in Rome in 1992. Born in Port Chester, she entered the Maryknoll Sisters in 1955 and made her final vows in 1964. In the 1950s she taught at Transfiguration School in Manhattan before being sent to the Philippines where she taught at Maryknoll high schools. A Funeral Mass was offered Jan. 5 at the chapel of the Maryknoll Sisters Center in Ossining.
