Sister Celestine Costello, O.S.U.

Sister Celestine Costello, O.S.U., who taught for 21 years at The Ursuline School in New Rochelle, died Oct. 19 at Andrus on Hudson in Hastings-on-Hudson. She was 85.

She taught at Ursuline, 1986-2002 and 1962-1967. She was a librarian at the College of New Rochelle, 1967-1969, and also served in Maryland and Delaware.

Born in Peekskill, she entered the Ursuline Sisters in 1956 and professed final vows in 1965. She earned a bachelor’s degree in psychology from the College of New Rochelle and master’s degrees in education and library science from the Catholic University of America, Washington, D.C.

Her sisters, Regina Morini and Maureen Durkin, and her brother, Joseph Costello, survive her.

A Funeral Mass was offered Oct. 23 at the Ursuline Province Center, New Rochelle. Burial was in St. Lawrence O’Toole Cemetery, Brewster.
