Sister Charlotte Gusmano, M.M.S.

Sister Charlotte Gusmano, M.M.S., a native New Yorker who taught art and was a fund-raiser, died Nov. 21 at Holy Redeemer Infirmary in Huntingdon Valley, Pa. She was 86. She had served for the previous 30 years in California, where her ministries included adult education in art and design; social justice work; and fundraising. She served as a Western District representative to the Medical Mission Sisters’ North American Assembly. Born in New York City, she entered the congregation in 1953 and professed final vows in 1958. She was a councilor on the sisters’ governing board, 1963-1967; a local superior in California, 1960-1963; and a novice mistress and bookkeeper in England, 1953-1960. She was a graduate of the College of New Rochelle and the New York Phoenix School of Design in Manhattan. A Funeral Mass was offered Nov. 28 at the headquarters of the Medical Mission Sisters in Philadelphia. Burial was in the sisters’ cemetery.
