Sister Christina Pessolano, C.S.J.B.

Sister Christina Pessolano, C.S.J.B., a longtime teacher at St. John Villa Academy, Staten Island, died Jan. 19 in Providence Rest Nursing Home in the Bronx. She was 87.

She taught at St. John Villa, 1975-2011. The academy’s alumni association honored Sister Christina in 2010 for her significant impact on the institution and on her students over her career. She taught business education at St. John Villa Academy High School as well as computer classes.

She also taught for six years in Santiago, Chile, as a missionary for her order.

Born on Staten Island, she entered the Sisters of St. John the Baptist in 1953 and professed final vows in 1960. She held a bachelor’s degree in business administration from Pace University.

A Funeral Mass was offered Jan. 22 at Mount St. John Chapel in Purchase. Burial was at Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Valhalla.
