Sister Christine Corey, O.P.

Sister Christine Corey, O.P., a teacher and musician in the archdiocese for 26 years, died Dec. 29 in Siena Hall at the Dominican Convent in Sparkill. She was 79.

Sister Christine’s ministry as a teacher and musician were at St. Catharine School, Blauvelt, 1982-1987; Holy Name School, Valhalla, 1982-1985; St. Gregory Barbarigo, Garnerville, 1978-1982; Msgr. Scanlan High School, the Bronx, 1974-1976; Rosary Academy, Sparkill, 1966-1974; St. John Chrysostom School, the Bronx, 1965-1966; and St. Brendan, the Bronx, 1961-1965. She also served at St. John’s parish, Piermont, 1984-1985.

She was co-director of the Jerusalem House of Prayer, Sparkill, 1976-2003; choir director of St. Thomas Lutheran Church, Nyack, 2007-2011; director of the congregational Schola at Dominican Convent, Sparkill, 1984-2005; pastoral minister/chaplain at Benedictine Hospital, Kingston, 2003-2007; and support care coordinator for United Hospice of Rockland, New City, 1992-1999. She also served in New Jersey.

She participated in the career options program at Calvary Hospital, the Bronx, 1991-1992.

Born in New York City, she entered the Dominican Sisters of Sparkill in 1959 and professed final vows in 1966. She received a bachelor’s degree in education from St. Thomas Aquinas College, Sparkill, and a master’s in music education from The Catholic University of America, Washington, D.C.

Funeral arrangements were private. Burial was in St. Agnes Cemetery.
