Sister Dolores Smiskol, M.M., a nurse who served for 40 years in Korea, died Jan. 30 in the Maryknoll Sisters Residential Care unit at Maryknoll. She was 77.

Assigned to Korea in 1958, she worked in a clinic in Pusan, did public health nursing in Jeung Pyeung and served as supervisor of the Pusan clinic’s public health department.

In the 1970s and 1980s she taught English in Seoul and did parish work in Samyul. She served in campus ministry in Kwangju, 1986-2001.

She was a member of Maryknoll’s regional governing board in Korea, 1973-1976. In 2001 she returned to the Maryknoll Sisters Center, where she served in the treasury and development departments and was a member of the pastoral care team.

Born in St. Louis, Mo., she entered the Maryknoll Sisters in 1955 and professed final vows in 1964. She held an R.N. and a bachelor’s degree in nursing education from St. Louis University and a master’s in public health from the University of Michigan.

She is survived by a sister, Diana Simpson.

A Memorial Mass was celebrated Feb. 1 at the Maryknoll Sisters Center. Burial will take place in Maryknoll Sisters Cemetery.
