Sister Dolores Targiano, R.S.M.

Sister Dolores Targiano, R.S.M., who taught at St. Catharine Academy in the Bronx for nearly two decades, died April 12 at McAuley Hall Health Center in Watchung, N.J. She was 78.

She taught in the Bronx at St. Barnabas High School, 2003-2010, St. Catharine Academy, 1984-2002, St. Francis Xavier, 1976-1983, St. Francis of Assisi, 1975-1976, and Sacred Heart, 1970-1972. She also served at Transfiguration School, Tarrytown, 1967-1969, and St. Cecilia, Manhattan, 1964-1967.

Born in the Bronx, she entered the Sisters of Mercy in 1959 and made final vows in 1967.

She earned a master’s degree from Fordham University and a bachelor’s from Mercy College.

She is survived by her sisters, Rosemarie Corliss and Margaret Gallagher, and her brother, John.

Burial was April 17 at Holy Cross Burial Park in East Brunswick, N.J. A Memorial Mass will be celebrated at a later date.
