Sister Eileen Hance, S.C., who was a teacher and hospital chaplain, died March 6 at Mary the Queen Convent in Yonkers. She was 82. Sister Eileen, previously known as Sister Regina Eileen, was a teacher for 36 years before switching to pastoral care and chaplaincy work in hospitals. She taught in the Bronx at St. Augustine School, 1965-1982; in Manhattan at St. Bernard's, 1961-1965, Sacred Heart, 1954-1957, and St. John the Evangelist, 1946-1954; and in Nanuet at St. Agatha's Home, 1957-1961. She was a volunteer at Calvary Hospital, the Bronx, 1982-1983, and then attended a program there in health care ministry. She did pastoral care at Bronx Lebanon Hospital, 1984-1988, and was a chaplain there, 1988-1991. In 1991-1992 she was a receptionist and office assistant at St. Raymond Academy, the Bronx. Born in Brooklyn, she entered the Sisters of Charity in 1944 and professed final vows in 1950. She held a bachelor's degree from the College of Mount St. Vincent in the Bronx and a master's from Hunter College in Manhattan. A Funeral Mass was offered March 8 in the chapel of Mary the Queen Convent, with burial in St. Agatha Cemetery, Nanuet.
