Sister Eileen Lindsay, F.S.P.

Sister Eileen Lindsay, F.S.P., who served at Maria Regina High School in Hartsdale for 25 years, died Sept. 23 at St. Cabrini Nursing Home in Dobbs Ferry. She was 96.

Sister Eileen was at Maria Regina as a teacher and chairperson of the science department, 1986-2007, and then as a library assistant, 2007-2011.

Sister Eileen taught at Franciscan High School, Mohegan Lake, 1984-1986 and 1974-1983, where she also served as assistant principal and chairperson of the science department; St. Patrick’s School, Yorktown, 1983-1984; Ladycliff College, Highland Falls, 1965-1971, 1959-1963 and 1952-1954; and St. Veronica’s Elementary School, Manhattan, 1951-1952. She was a group leader at Lt. Joseph P. Kennedy Home, the Bronx, 1954-1956, and also served in New Jersey.

Born in Totowa, N.J., she entered the Franciscan Missionary Sisters of the Sacred Heart in Peekskill in 1949 and professed final vows in 1956.

She earned a bachelor’s degree in science from Ladycliff College, ; a master’s in biology from Fordham University, the Bronx; and a Ph.D. in biology from St. Bonaventure University, Allegany.

Her brother, Valentine, survives her.

A Funeral Mass was celebrated Sept. 28 in Marian Woods Chapel, Hartsdale. Burial was in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Yonkers.
