Sister Eileen McMahon, O.P., who served as a teacher, guidance counselor and administrator, died Nov. 16 in Siena Hall Infirmary, Sparkill. She was 83.

She served in the Bronx at St. Helena’s School, 1948-1955, and Msgr. Scanlan High School, 1966-1970. She also served at schools in Queens and Hicksville.

Born in New York, she entered the Dominican Sisters of Sparkill in 1947, taking the name Sister Eileen William. She professed final vows in 1953. She held a bachelor’s degree in education from Fordham University and a master’s in education from St. John’s University.

Her sisters, Julia Hanna and Frances Bucholtz, and her brothers, Vincent and Martin, survive her.

A Funeral Mass was celebrated Nov. 19 at Our Lady of the Rosary Chapel in Dominican Convent, Sparkill. Burial followed there at St. Agnes Cemetery.
