Sister Elizabeth Barribeau, O.P.

Sister Elizabeth Barribeau, O.P., who served for a year as assistant principal of Our Lady of Refuge School in the Bronx, died Feb. 3 at St. Dominic Villa in Hazel Green, Wis. She was 96.

She was assistant principal of Our Lady of Refuge, 1988-1989. She also taught in Chicago, Minnesota, Iowa, Wisconsin and Alabama, and served as a pastoral associate in Florida.

Born in Goodman, Wis., she entered the Dominican Sisters of Sinsinawa in 1942. She transferred vows in 1962 to the Trappist nuns in Wrentham, Mass., who established a new foundation near Dubuque, Iowa. Sister Elizabeth, who was a foundress of that congregation, returned to the Sinsinawa Dominicans in 1985.

She is survived by two brothers, James and William. A Funeral Mass was offered Feb. 9 at the motherhouse in Sinsinawa. Her cremains were buried in the motherhouse cemetery.
