Sister Elizabeth Scully, C.N.D.

Sister Elizabeth Scully, C.N.D., who was principal of Villa Maria Academy in the Bronx for eight years, died April 21 at Lourdes Health Care Center in Wilton, Conn. She was 92.

Sister Elizabeth served at Villa Maria Academy, 1970-1978, and taught at St. Jean Baptiste High School, Manhattan, 1948-1950 and 1969-1970. She also served in Connecticut, Rhode Island, Illinois and New Jersey.

She was the provincial leader of the Congregation of Notre Dame’s U.S. Province, 1988-1992, and mistress of novices, 1963-1969.

Born in Waterbury, Conn., she entered Congregation of Notre Dame in 1946 and professed final vows in 1954. She was formerly known as Sister St. Laura of Mary.

She earned a bachelor’s degree from Albertus Magnus College, New Haven, Conn., and a master’s from Iona College.

A Funeral Mass was offered April 25 at Villa Notre Dame in Wilton. Burial was in St. Peter Cemetery in Danbury, Conn.
