Sister Frances Devine, S.C., who served for 18 years at Cathedral High School in Manhattan, died Oct. 5 at Cabrini of Westchester in Dobbs Ferry. She was 102.

Sister Frances served at Cathedral as a teacher and chairperson of the history department, 1942-1960. She was at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton School, Shrub Oak,

1983-1984; Resurrection, Rye, 1974-1982; Cardinal Spellman High School, the Bronx, 1961-1974; and Blessed Sacrament, the Bronx, 1940-1941.

She also served in the Diocese of Brooklyn and Diocese of Rockville Centre.

Born in Manhattan, she entered the Sisters of Charity of New York in 1939 and professed final vows in 1945.

She earned a bachelor’s degree in history from the College of Mount St. Vincent, the Bronx; and master’s degrees in history from Fordham University, the Bronx, and theological studies from Providence College, Providence, R.I.

A Funeral Mass was celebrated Oct. 9 in St. Margaret of Cortona Church, the Bronx. Interment of cremains will take place at a later date in Mount St. Vincent Cemetery, the Bronx.
