Sister Francis Marie Connolly, F.M.S.C.

Sister Francis Marie Connolly, F.M.S.C., who served as a provincial secretary of the Franciscan Missionary Sisters of the Sacred Heart for 17 years, died Dec. 18. She was 105.

She was provincial secretary, 1975-1981 and 1986-1997. She was records manager and archivist, 1981-2000.

She was assigned to St. Matthew’s School, Hastings-on-Hudson, 1970-1975; Sacred Heart, Highland Falls, 1947-1948; and Our Lady Queen of Martyrs, Manhattan, 1936-1940. She also served in New Jersey.

Born in Manhattan, she entered the Franciscan Missionary Sisters of the Sacred Heart in 1931 and received the name Sister Francis Marie of the Holy Name of Jesus as a novice. She professed final vows in 1938.

She earned a bachelor’s degree in history from Ladycliff College in Highland Falls and was certified as an archivist by the National Archives Institute in Washington, D.C.

A Funeral Mass was celebrated Dec. 20 at Mount St. Francis, Peekskill, followed by burial in the sisters’ cemetery there.
