Sister Freda Burns, R.D.C., who taught at St. Mary’s School in Katonah and Kennedy Catholic High School in Somers, died Feb. 28 at Good Counsel Convent in White Plains. She was 93.

She taught at St. Mary’s from 1944 to 1967 and at Kennedy, 1967-1994.

Born in New York City, she entered the Sisters of the Divine Compassion in 1940 and professed final vows in 1948. She was formerly known as Sister Mary Victorian.

She held bachelor’s and master’s degrees in English from Good Counsel College and Fordham University. She also pursued advanced studies at St. John’s University, Teachers College of Columbia University and Colgate University.

A Funeral Mass was offered March 4 in the Chapel of the Divine Compassion in White Plains. Burial followed at Calvary Cemetery in White Plains.
