Sister Helen Edward Prager, F.S.P.

Sister Helen Edward Prager, F.S.P., a teacher and administrator who was principal of St. Patrick’s School in Verplanck for 28 years, died Dec. 16 at St. Cabrini Nursing Home in Dobbs Ferry. She was 88.

She was principal of St. Patrick’s from 1963 to 1991, then served at the parish as director of religious education and principal of early childhood education, 1991-2000.

She taught at St. Matthew’s School in Hastings-on-Hudson, 1962-1963; Guardian School in Peekskill, 1955-1962; and in New Jersey. She served at St. Joseph’s Home in Peekskill, 1944-1949.

Born in Brooklyn, she entered the Franciscan Sisters in Peekskill in 1942 and professed final vows in 1949. She held a bachelor’s degree in history from Ladycliff College.

She retired in 2000 and moved to St. Cabrini in 2008.

Surviving is a sister, Audrey Mac-Lean.

A Funeral Mass was celebrated Dec. 21 at Marian Woods in Hartsdale. Burial was at St. Mary’s Cemetery in Yonkers.
