Sister Helen Marie Raynor, P.B.V.M.

Sister Helen Marie Raynor, P.B.V.M., who taught at schools in Manhattan and the Bronx, died April 23 at Sapphire Nursing and Rehab Center in Goshen. She was 81.

Sister Helen Marie taught at St. Michael and St. Jude schools in Manhattan, and at St. Frances of Rome and Our Lady of Solace in the Bronx. She also taught at schools in Queens.

She served in Hispanic ministry in St. Rose of Lima parish in Manhattan and St. Patrick’s in Newburgh. She also did mission work in Caracas, Venezuela.

Born in Manhattan, she entered the Sisters of the Presentation of the Blessed Virgin Mary in 1956 and made final vows in 1962. She held a bachelor’s degree from Fordham University and a master’s from St. Mary of the Woods College in Indiana.

She is survived by her sister, Maryanne Raynor, an aunt and cousins.
A Memorial Mass will be held at a later date. Burial services will be private.
