Sister Helen Marie Stanton, S.F.P.

Sister Helen Marie Stanton, S.F.P., a nurse who also ministered to migrant workers, died Sept. 25 at Schervier Pavilion in Warwick. She was 86. She served migrant workers and their families at the Farm Labor and Family Clinic in Pine Island, 1968-1977. She served in the archdiocese as a nurse at St. Anthony's Hospital, Warwick, 1961-1965, and for three years in the early 1950s. She also did nursing and advocacy for the homeless in dioceses elsewhere in the state and in New Jersey. Born in the Bronx, she entered the Franciscan Sisters of the Poor in 1943 and professed final vows in 1950. She is survived by a brother, Robert, and a sister, Catherine Stern. A Funeral Mass was offered Sept. 28 at Mount Alverno Center, Warwick, with burial in Mount Alverno Cemetery.
