Sister Helena Horwood, S.A., who served in ministries in New York and California, died Feb. 15. She was 91. Born in Manhattan, she entered the Franciscan Sisters of the Atonement at Graymoor in Garrison in 1929 and professed final vows in 1937. In 1931 she was assigned to St. Cecilia's Mission in East Harlem and remained for two years doing day care and religious education work. She later served in the Diocese of Ogdensburg and in other states, including three assignments in California, before returning to live at the motherhouse at Graymoor in 1998. A Funeral Mass was offered Feb. 17 in the motherhouse chapel, with burial in the sisters' cemetery at Graymoor.
