Sister Janet McCann, L.S.A., who served in Manhattan as provincial coordinator for the Little Sisters of the Assumption, died Nov. 30 at the Zicklin Residence hospice in Riverdale. She was 72.

She fulfilled the leadership role for her province for 10 years beginning in 1984. She then mentored volunteers for the Little Sisters of the Assumption Family Health Services in East Harlem.

She also served in Pennsylvania and spent 13 years in Worcester, Mass., as director of a family health service. She was instrumental in creating a volunteer program and bringing health care to areas of great need, including immigrant communities.

Born in Philadelphia, she entered the Little Sisters of the Assumption in 1959 and made final vows in 1968.

She was a registered nurse, having received a degree from Mercy Junior College in Pennsylvania and a master’s in community psychology from Springfield College in Massachusetts.

Her three brothers, Edward, Frank, and Brother Richard McCann, S.T., survive her.

A Funeral Mass was offered Dec. 8 at St. Francis De Sales Church in Manhattan. Burial was at Calvary Cemetery in Queens.
