Sister Janice Costello, O.P., who taught at Our Lady of Mercy School in the Bronx, died Nov. 22 at St. Dominic Villa in Sinsinawa, Wis. She was 83.
She taught at Our Lady of Mercy, 1950-1956, during her more than 50-year ministry in education. She also served in Minnesota, Iowa, Wisconsin, Alabama, Maryland, Mississippi, Georgia, Washington and Illinois in various capacities, including as a teacher, principal and librarian.
Born in Oak Park, Ill., she entered the Sinsinawa Dominicans in 1947 and professed final vows in 1952.
A Funeral Mass was offered Nov. 27 in the Queen of Rosary Chapel in Sinsinawa. Burial was in the motherhouse cemetery.
