Sister Jean Marie Darling, O.P.

Sister Jean Marie Darling, O.P., a Dominican Sister of Hope who served in Newburgh for 13 years, died May 29 at Capital Health Medical Center in Pennington, N.J. She was 84.

In Newburgh, Sister Jean Marie served at Mount St. Mary College, 1979-1985; and Mount St. Mary Academy, 1972-1979. She was at Holy Family School, New Rochelle, 1968-1971, and St. Mary’s School, Poughkeepsie, 1960-1966.

She also served in New Jersey and North Carolina.

Born in Jersey City, N.J., she entered the Dominican Sisters of Newburgh in 1954 and professed final vows in 1959.

She earned a bachelor’s degree in education from Mount St. Mary College; and a master’s in guidance and counseling from Villanova University, Villanova, Pa.

Her sister, Barbara Marotti, survives her.

A Funeral Mass will be celebrated Sept. 8 at St. Elizabeth of Hungary Church-Parish of St. Teresa of Calcutta, Avon by the Sea, N.J. Burial will be in St. Catharine Cemetery and Mausoleum, Sea Girt, N.J.
