Sister Jeanne Burns O.P.

Sister Jeanne Burns O.P., who served 41 years as coordinator of the 33 Club for senior citizens in Manhattan, died Dec. 8 in Montefiore Nyack Hospital in Nyack. She was 93.

Sister Jeanne worked at the 33 Club, 1972-2013, enhancing the quality of life for older adults in the Kips Bay/Murray Hill section of Manhattan. She was honored with the Father Victor Yanitelli, S.J., Award from SOAR! (Support Our Aging Religious for her service to the elderly.

Sister Jeanne also served in the Bronx at St. Joseph School, 1969-1972, and St. Theresa, the Bronx, 1956-1965; and at Cardinal McCloskey Home and School, White Plains, 1948-1951. She also served in Brooklyn, Fulton and Norwich.

Born in the Bronx, she entered the Dominican Sisters of Sparkill in 1947 and professed final vows in 1953. She received a bachelor’s degree in early childhood education from Fordham University, the Bronx.

All funeral arrangements were private. Burial was in St. Agnes Cemetery, Sparkle.
