Sister Joan Cunningham, F.S.P.

Sister Joan Cunningham, F.S.P., who served as a dietitian and as a teacher, died Feb. 23 at St. Francis Cabrini Nursing Home in Dobbs Ferry. She was 77.

She served as a food service supervisor and dietitian at Metropolitan Hospital in Manhattan, 1982-2006.

She was principal at Our Lady Queen of Martyrs School, Manhattan, 1976-1980, and also taught there, 1964-1966. She taught at Assumption School, Peekskill, 1967-1968, and St. Columbanus, Cortlandt Manor, 1966-1967.

Born in New York City, she entered the Franciscan Sisters of Peace in 1953 and professed final vows in 1960.

She held a bachelor’s in biology from Ladycliff College, and a master’s in nutrition from Hunter College.

She is survived by her mother, Frances Cunningham, and a sister, Arlene Hertel.

A Funeral Mass was offered Feb. 27 at Marian Woods, Hartsdale. Burial followed in St. Mary’s Cemetery in Yonkers.
