Sister Joan Pardell, O.P.

Sister Joan Pardell, O.P., who served as principal of Our Lady of Mercy School in the Bronx, died June 4 at St. Dominic Villa in Hazel Green, Wis. She was 85.

Sister Joan was at the Bronx school from 1969 to 1974. She was an educator for nearly half a century, serving as principal for 28 years and as a teacher for 21, and a pastoral minister for 10 years. Her service was mostly in Illinois and Wisconsin.

Born in Chicago, she entered the Dominican Sisters of Sinsinawa in 1951 and made final vows in 1956. She held a bachelor’s degree in education from Edgewood College in Madison, Wis., and a master’s in education administration from St. Mary’s College in Winona, Minn.

Sister Joan is survived by two brothers, John and Kenneth. A Funeral Mass was offered June 7 at the motherhouse in Sinsinawa, Wis. Burial was at the motherhouse cemetery.
