Sister Joanne McMahon, M.M., who served on the Caroline Islands in Micronesia for 59 years, died Nov. 8 at the Maryknoll Sisters Center in Ossining. She was 95.

Sister Joanne was in the Caroline Islands, 1952-2011, serving on the islands of Yap and Koror as a teacher and principal, and later was on a task force for the building of Yap Catholic High School. She retired to the Maryknoll Sisters Center in 2011.

Born in Brookston, Minn., she entered the Maryknoll Sisters Novitiate in 1946 and professed final vows in 1952. She earned a bachelor’s degree in education from Maryknoll Teachers College, Ossining.

Her Funeral Mass was livestreamed Nov. 13 due to the Covid-19 pandemic. Burial was in Maryknoll Sisters Cemetery, Ossining.
