Sister Joanne Therese Maloney, O.P., who taught at the elementary, high school and college levels in the archdiocese, died June 18 in Siena Hall Infirmary at Dominican Convent in Sparkill. She was 85.

She taught at St. Catharine’s School, Blauvelt, 1997-1998; Annunciation, Crestwood, 1994-1997; St. Anthony’s, Nanuet, 1986-1994; and St. Matthew’s, Hastings-on-Hudson, 1985-1986.

She also taught in the Bronx at St. Raymond Academy, 1975-1983; Msgr. Scanlan High School, 1968-1975; Aquinas High School, 1952-1968; and St. Brendan’s School, 1945-1952.

She taught English as a second language with One to One Learning Inc., 1998-2006. She also taught part time at St. Thomas Aquinas College, Sparkill, and Dominican College, Orangeburg.

Born in New Britain, Conn., she entered the Dominican Sisters of Sparkill in 1944 and made final vows in 1950. She held a bachelor’s degree in elementary education from Fordham University and a master’s in mathematics from St. John’s University.

A Funeral Mass was offered June 22 at Our Lady of the Rosary Chapel at Dominican Convent. Burial was in St. Agnes Cemetery in Sparkill.
