Sister Julia Dennehy, O.S.U.

Sister Julia Dennehy, O.S.U., who taught in the Bronx for five years each at the Academy of Mount St. Ursula and Our Lady of Mercy School, died Jan. 17 at Andrus on Hudson in Hastings-on-Hudson. She was 91.

Sister Julia taught at the Academy of Mount St. Ursula, 1982-1983, 1957-1960 and 1952, and Our Lady of Mercy, 1952-1957. She was principal of Our Lady of Perpetual Help, Pelham, 1985-1987.

She also served in Greece.

Born in the Bronx, she entered the Ursuline Order in Beacon in 1946 and professed final vows in 1952. She was formerly known as Mother Daniel Joseph.

She earned her bachelor’s degree in Latin from the College of New Rochelle, and a master’s in classics from Fordham University, the Bronx.

A Funeral Mass was celebrated Jan. 22 in the Ursuline Province Chapel, New Rochelle. Burial was in St. Raymond Cemetery, the Bronx.
