Sister Kathleen McKiernan, S.C., who served for decades in nursing administration, died Aug. 31 at St. Joseph's Medical Center in Yonkers. She was 86.

Sister Kathleen served intermittently for 19 years as administrative coordinator of Cabrini Nursing Home in Dobbs Ferry, from 1983 to 2010. She then did volunteer work until 2019.

She previously served in nursing administration at St. Joseph's Hospital in Yonkers, St. Vincent Hospital on Staten Island and St. Vincent Hospital in Manhattan, where she began as a staff nurse in 1957. Over the years she was an adjunct faculty member at Pace University, and in supervisory and administrative positions with the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services.

Born in Manhattan, she entered the Sisters of Charity of New York in 1951 and made final vows in 1959. She held a master’s degree in education in supervision and nursing services from Teachers College of Columbia University, and a master's in medical/surgical nursing from New York University. She received her RN after attending St. Vincent's Hospital School of Nursing in Manhattan.

A Funeral Mass was offered Sept. 4 at St. Margaret of Cortona Church in the Bronx. Burial was at St. Agatha Cemetery in Nanuet.
