Sister Laurence Montgomery, O.S.U.

Sister Laurence Montgomery, O.S.U., who taught at St. Joseph’s School in Middletown for 10 years, died July 27 at Andrus on Hudson in Hastings-on-Hudson. She was 99.

Sister Laurence was at St. Joseph, 1970-1980. She also taught at St. Jerome, the Bronx, 1964-1970; Our Lady of Mercy, the Bronx, 1946-1948; and Blessed Sacrament, New Rochelle, 1945-1946. She assisted English language learners in Florida, Orange County, where she instructed children of migrant workers.

She also served in Maryland, Delaware and California.

Born in Wilmington, Del., she entered the Ursuline Sisters in 1941 and professed final vows in 1946.

She earned a bachelor’s degree from the College of New Rochelle and a master’s from The Catholic University of America, Washington, D.C.

Burial was July 29 in Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Hawthorne. A Memorial Mass will be scheduled at a later date.
