Sister Laurenza Hickey, F.S.P., an educator in archdiocesan elementary and high schools for 40 years, died March 22 at St. Cabrini Nursing Home in Dobbs Ferry. She was 103.

She taught at Our Lady Queen of Martyrs School, 1934-1939 and 1940-1952, St. Veronica’s, 1939-1940, the Academy of St. Joseph, 1952-1955, and Assisium Business School, 1970-1972, all in Manhattan; St. Teresa’s, Tarrytown, as a teacher and principal, 1955-1961; Ladycliff Academy, Mohegan Lake, as a bursar and teacher, 1962-1963; and Ladycliff College, Highland Falls, as a superior and teacher, 1963-1969. She also served at Sacred Heart High School in Yonkers as a secretary in the guidance office, 1988-1998, and at schools in Pennsylvania and New Jersey.

She was assistant provincial at Mount St. Francis in Peekskill, 1972-1978, served as an archivist/coordinator there, 1981-1984, and as an archivist, 1984-1986. She also served at Franciscan High School, Mohegan Lake, as bursar, 1978-1981.

Born in New York City, she entered the Franciscan Sisters in 1924 and professed final vows in 1932. She held a bachelor’s degree in education from Ladycliff College and a master’s in guidance and educational psychology from Fordham University. In 2005 she received the Peacemaker Award from the Franciscan Federation.

A Funeral Mass was offered March 25 at Marian Woods Convent in Hartsdale. Burial followed at St. Mary’s Cemetery in Yonkers.
