Sister Lawrence Marie Hayden, F.M.S.C.

Sister Lawrence Marie Hayden, F.M.S.C., who was a provincial and treasurer for her religious community, died March 23 at the Franciscan Sisters’ infirmary in Peekskill. She was 88.

She was named provincial treasurer in 1972 and, during this period, also served on the archdiocese’s inter-parish finance commission. She was appointed administrator for her community and was elected provincial superior of the St. Francis Province, 1986-1994.

She taught at Assumption School, Peekskill, 1947-1950, and the Assisium Business School, Manhattan, 1950-1952. She became bursar at Ladycliff College in 1957.

Sister Lawrence Marie was the parish secretary at Assumption, Peekskill, 1995-1999. Because of health concerns, she was semi-retired until 2004 when she became part-time provincial treasurer, 2004-1010.

Born in Little Ferry, N.J., she entered the Franciscan Missionary Sisters of the Sacred Heart in 1945. She made her final profession in 1952.

She received a master’s degree in business administration from New York University.

Her sister Marilyn Barry survives her.

A Funeral Mass was offered March 27 at the sisters’ chapel, followed by burial at the sisters’ cemetery, both Peekskill.
