Sister Louise Silva, S.A., who served in East Harlem in the 1940s, died Jan. 4 at the Atonement Sisters’ Motherhouse at Graymoor, Garrison. She was 81.

   She served at St. Cecilia’s parish, where the sisters operated a pre-school program, 1945-1946. She also served upstate and in six other states, including many assignments in California.

   Born in Oakland, Calif., she entered the Franciscan Sisters of the Atonement in 1942 and professed final vows in 1949.

   She is survived by three sisters, including Sister Dorothy Silva, S.A., who serves in California.

   A Funeral Mass was offered Jan. 8 in the Motherhouse Chapel, with burial in the sisters’ cemetery, Graymoor.
