Sister Lucille Melo, R.S.H.M., who served nearly half a century at Marymount schools in Tarrytown and New York City, died Dec. 17 at Marymount Convent in Tarrytown. She was 83.

She served at the Marymount School of New York from 1967 to 1999 in a variety of assignments, from teacher’s aide to plant director. She earlier served at Marymount School in Tarrytown, 1951-1952, and at Marymount College there, 1952-1967.

Born in Orjais, Portugal, she entered the Religious of the Sacred Heart of Mary in Braga, Portugal, in 1949. She came to the United States as a novice and professed her final vows in Tarrytown in 1956.

A Funeral Mass was offered Dec. 22 at Marymount Convent, Tarrytown. Burial was Mount Calvary Cemetery, White Plains.
