Sister M. Helen Paul Podesla, O.S.F.

Sister M. Helen Paul Podesla, O.S.F., who served at St. Agnes Hospital in White Plains for 32 years, died April 20 at White Plains Hospital. She was 81.

Sister Helen Paul was at St. Agnes as nursing supervisor in the children’s rehabilitation center, 1968-1995, and staff nurse, 1963-1968.

Sister Helen Paul served as director of finances for the Sisters of St. Francis of the Neumann Communities’ East Coast Region, 2004-2015, and as a member of the shared futures task force, 2004, and on the general council, 2002-2004. She worked at a DOCS walk-in medical facility in Yonkers as employee health nurse and clinical educator, 1996-2004, and nurse manager, 1995-1996.

Born in New York City, she entered the Sisters of St. Francis at Hastings on Hudson in 1960 and professed final vows in 1968.

She earned a bachelor’s degree from Mercy College, Dobbs Ferry, and a master’s from Bank Street College of Education, Manhattan.

A Memorial Mass and burial at Resurrection Cemetery, Staten Island, will be at a future date.
