Sister M. Sabine Higgins, I.H.M.

Sister M. Sabine Higgins, I.H.M., who taught at St. Stephen Elementary School in Manhattan and was principal at St. Ann School in Nyack, died May 9 at Our Lady of Peace Residence in Scranton, Pa. She was 100.

Sister Sabine taught at St. Stephen for 11 years ending in 1961. She served as principal of St. Ann, 1968-1974.

Over the decades, she also served as teacher and administrator at schools on Long Island and in Pennsylvania.

Born in Scranton, she entered the Sisters, Servants of the Immaculate Heart of Mary in 1942 and professed final vows in 1948. She held a bachelor’s degree in elementary education and a master’s of science in elementary education, both from Marywood College (now University) in Scranton.

She is survived by nieces and nephews, and grandnieces and grandnephews.
A private Funeral Mass was planned. Burial was to be at St. Catherine’s Cemetery in Moscow, Pa.
