Sister M. Trinity Brophy, R.S.H.M.

Sister M. Trinity Brophy, R.S.H.M., who served in education and administrative posts and also ministered to the elderly and ill, died Feb. 25 at Marymount Convent in Tarrytown. She was 81.

She served in the archdiocese from 1980 until 2000 in positions that included coordinator and business manager of Marymount Convent, registration coordinator at St. Clare’s Hospital in Manhattan, patient advocate at Our Lady of Mercy Hospital in the Bronx and coordinator of Mariandale Retreat and Conference Center in Ossining. She taught at the Academy of the Sacred Heart of Mary in Manhattan, 1949-1955.

She served earlier in Washington, D.C, and Virginia, where she was provincial secretary of the Virginia vice-province of her congregation, academic dean of Marymount University in Arlington, Va., and director of the counseling center at Trinity College, Washington, D.C.

Born in Jersey City, N.J., she entered the Religious of the Sacred Heart of Mary in 1947 and professed final vows in 1954.

Surviving is a sister, Marilyn Brophy Shannan. A Funeral Mass was offered March 2 at Marymount Convent. Burial was in St. Catharine’s Cemetery in Sea Girt, N.J.
