Sister Madelon Marie Mullen, M.M., a missioner who served in the Philippines, died Oct. 28 at Maryknoll Sisters Residential Care. She was 85. She taught elementary grades at schools in the Philippines, 1950-1958, and in Maryknoll's Central Pacific Region, 1958-1985, taking periods out for studies. Beginning in 1985, she did pastoral work in the Central Pacific Region until her 2001 retirement to the Maryknoll Sisters Center in Ossining. She had returned to New York in the early 1970s to pursue graduate studies at St. John's University, earning a master's degree in Scripture and religious education. In that period, she was assistant director of the vocations office at Maryknoll. Born in Glasgow, Scotland, she grew up in Brooklyn, where her family immigrated. She entered the Maryknoll Sisters in 1944 and professed final vows in 1950. Surviving are two sisters, Sister Ann Jane and Sister Jane Mary, both members of the Sisters of St. Joseph in Brentwood. A Funeral Mass was offered Nov. 2 in the Maryknoll Sisters Main Chapel, with burial in the sisters' cemetery.
