Sister Marcella McHale, F.S.P., who served as an educator and support staffer in New York, New Jersey and Pennsylvania, died May 30 at White Plains Hospital. She was 84.

Her final teaching position was at St. Joseph’s School in Oradell, N.J., 1992-1996. She later served in secretarial and volunteer assignments in New York and New Jersey. She continued her volunteer work for three years after she retired in 2013.

Her teaching assignments in the archdiocese included St. Teresa’s School, Sleepy Hollow, 1980-1982, and Assumption, Peekskill, 1978-1979.

She served as the secretary or a member of the support staff at the Franciscan Sisters of Peace Congregation Center, Haverstraw, 1996-1999; Mount St. Francis Motherhouse, Peekskill, 1985-1987; and Our Lady Queen of Angels retirement home, Peekskill, 1976-1977. She worked in child care at Lt. Joseph P. Kennedy Home, the Bronx, 1961-1963.

Born in Philadelphia, she entered the Franciscan Sisters of Peace in 1958 and made final vows in 1963. She earned a bachelor’s degree in history from Ladycliff College, Highland Falls.

A Funeral Mass was offered June 4 at Marian Woods in Hartsdale. Burial was at St. Mary’s Cemetery in Yonkers.
