Sister Margaret Hamilton, O.S.U.

Sister Margaret Hamilton, O.S.U., who served as a librarian and teacher in the archdiocese, died March 12 at Andrus on Hudson in Hastings-on-Hudson. She was 87.

She taught in the Bronx at St. Angela Merici School, St. Philip Neri and St. Jerome. She also taught at Ursuline Academy in Dedham, Mass., and at St. Ursula’s School in Brazil.

She was a librarian at the Academy of Mount St. Ursula, the Bronx, 1974-1993, when she retired. She was active in the New York chapter of the Catholic Library Association.

Born in Bridgeport, Conn., she earned a bachelor’s degree in social science at the College of New Rochelle. She held master’s degrees in history from Fordham University and in library science from Villanova University.

She entered the Ursuline Sisters of the Roman Union in 1950 and professed final vows in 1956. She was formerly known as Mother Mary Loyola.

Survivors include a brother Fredrick (Ted). A Funeral Mass was offered March 15 at the Province Center chapel in New Rochelle. Burial was at St. Raymond’s Cemetery, the Bronx.
