Sister Margaret John Dunne, O.P.

Sister Margaret John Dunne, O.P., who taught for two years at St. Rose of Lima School in Manhattan, died Sept. 20 in Siena Hall of Dominican Convent in Sparkill. She was 92.

Sister Margaret was at St. Rose of Lima, 1949-1951. She most recently served in congregational services at Dominican Convent, Sparkill, 2008-2013; as financial assistant for the Sisters of Mercy, Hartsdale, 1999-2006; as a nurse for the Dominican Sisters of Hope, Newburgh; and in the Office of Financial Services, Sparkill, 1980-1995.

She also taught for 16 years at schools in Brooklyn, Fulton and Hicksville.

Born in Springfield Gardens, Queens, she entered the Dominican Sisters of Sparkill in 1947 and professed final vows in 1954.

She received a bachelor’s degree in education from St. John’s University, Queens; a master’s in classics from The Catholic University of America, Washington, D.C.; and a degree in nursing from Rockland Community College, Suffern.

All arrangements were private. Burial was in St. Agnes Cemetery, Sparkill.
