Sister Margaret Mary Hindley, S.C., who served as director of Grace Institute’s Bronx outreach, died Aug. 3. She was 79.

She served as director and assistant to the director of Grace Institute outreach, based at St. Augustine’s parish in the Bronx, for a period of a dozen years beginning in 1984.

She taught and was a reading coordinator at Our Lady of Victory Academy in Dobbs Ferry, 1975-1984. She taught at Mother Cabrini High School in the Bronx, 1972-1975. In Manhattan, she served as assistant principal at Holy Name of Jesus School, 1970-1972; and taught at St. Patrick’s, 1963-1970, and Ascension, 1953-1958. She earlier taught on Staten Island at Immaculate Conception and St. Peter’s, and was a group mother at St. Agatha’s Home in Nanuet, 1960-1961. She also taught in Brooklyn.

Born in New York City, she entered the Sisters of Charity of New York in 1950 and professed final vows in 1958.

She held a bachelor’s degree in history and education from College of Mount St. Vincent and a master’s degree in education from Hunter College.

A Funeral Mass was offered Aug. 6 at Mary the Queen Convent, Yonkers. Burial was in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Rye.
