Sister Margaret Sweeney, S.C., who served at St. Vincent’s Hospital in Manhattan for 51 years, died April 11 at Cabrini of Westchester in Dobbs Ferry. She was 99.
Sister Margaret was at St. Vincent’s Hospital, 1997-2008 and 1950-1990, where she served as president and CEO, 1980-1990, and senior vice president, 1972-1980. She was vice president for administration at the College of Mount St. Vincent, the Bronx, 1990-1997; and taught at St. Joachim, Beacon, 1948-1950.
Born in Manhattan, she was a graduate of Cathedral High School in Manhattan. She entered the Sisters of Charity of New York in 1946 and professed final vows in 1951.
She earned a bachelor’s degree in business education from the College of Mount St. Vincent; a master’s in business administration from St. John’s University; and a master’s in hospital administration from Columbia University.
A Funeral Mass was celebrated April 17 at St. Margaret of Cortona Church, the Bronx. Burial was in St. Raymond Cemetery, the Bronx.
