Sister Margaret Wiener, R.S.H.M.

Sister Margaret Wiener, R.S.H.M., who taught mathematics at Marymount Manhattan College for nearly 50 years, died Jan. 8 in Tarrytown. She was 83.

Sister Margaret, also known as Sister Ferdinand, taught at the college from 1956 to 2005.

She also taught at Marymount School of New York in Manhattan, 1948-1949, and at Sacred Heart of Mary Academy on Marmion Avenue, the Bronx, 1949-1956. She was a member of the Altheia Community, an inter-congregational community in New York City, and was very active in work for justice and peace.

Born in Manhattan, she entered the Religious of the Sacred Heart of Mary in 1946 and professed final vows in 1953. She received a bachelor’s degree in mathematics from Marymount College, Tarrytown, and a master’s in education from St. John’s University. She also studied at the Gregorian University in Rome.

She moved to Marymount Convent, Tarrytown, in 2005.

A Funeral Mass was offered Jan. 11 at Marymount Convent, with burial in Mount Calvary Cemetery, White Plains.
